THE FULL-TIME COURSE PROGRAM

The FULL-TIME TRAINING PROGRAM is designed for students and aspiring artists seeking a comprehensive and rigorous education in academic drawing, figurative painting, and narrative illustration.

The program is rooted in the great tradition of Italian classical art and enriched by the Russian Academic tradition, which developed and reached particular prominence between the late 19th and early 20th centuries. At the heart of this educational approach is the belief that a well-trained artist should develop a solid technical foundation, a profound understanding of visual structure, and the ability to translate observation into a personal and expressive artistic language.

The curriculum combines theoretical study with intensive practical training. Students analyze the works of the great masters through master-copy practice, study plaster casts of classical sculptures, and develop a thorough understanding of the anatomy, structure, proportion, and movement of the human figure.

Particular attention is also devoted to the principles of narrative composition, enabling students to understand how figures, space, gesture, light, and visual rhythm can be organized to communicate an idea, atmosphere, or story.

Through this structured progression, the Full-Time Training Program aims to develop not only technical proficiency, but also artistic awareness, independent thinking, and compositional confidence, providing students with the foundations necessary for a professional path in figurative art and illustration.

The curriculum also includes the study and practice of still-life painting, an essential discipline for developing the ability to observe and accurately represent the distinctive visual qualities of different materials and surfaces. Through still life, students further refine their understanding of perspective, proportion, spatial relationships, light, and composition.

The training program encompasses the study of the traditional academic method of drawing, together with color theory and color-mixing techniques, the properties and proper use of painting and drawing materials, and the principles of light and shadow. These subjects are complemented by a broad range of other disciplines related to classical painting, academic drawing, and narrative illustration.

Together, these areas of study provide students with a structured and comprehensive artistic foundation, combining technical precision with visual understanding and compositional awareness.

The program begins with a thorough study of the tonal structure of form, light, perspective, and perspective distortions, establishing the fundamental principles required for accurate and convincing artistic representation. Students then progress to drawing from plaster casts, developing their understanding of form, proportion, volume, and spatial relationships while consolidating the foundations of academic drawing.

As their technical skills develop, students are introduced to essential pictorial techniques, including color preparation and mixing, grisaille, and glazing, as well as the fundamental principles of constructing a painting according to historical academic standards. These methods are applied to a progressive range of subjects, including still life, portraiture, the artistic nude, and narrative illustration.

The program then advances to an in-depth study of the human figure, explored through a variety of classical drawing and painting techniques. Students study artistic anatomy and anatomical drawing while learning to analyze and represent individual parts of the body—including hands, feet, and facial features—with increasing precision and structural understanding.

The three-year program culminates in the creation of an original narrative illustration on a theme chosen by the student, executed using either a pictorial or graphic technique. This final project brings together the technical, compositional, and expressive skills acquired throughout the course, allowing students to develop and present a personal artistic vision.
