Particular emphasis is placed on egg tempera, one of the defining techniques of Renaissance painting, together with its traditional variations and applications. Through a combination of historical study and hands-on practice, participants will explore the materials, preparation methods, and working processes that characterized the painting practice of Renaissance masters.

The study of egg tempera painting begins with the preparation of the colors using mineral pigments and the traditional tempera emulsion. Participants learn how to prepare and handle these materials while gaining an understanding of the principles that governed the practice of tempera painting in the Italian Renaissance.

The course explores the techniques associated with masters such as Pinturicchio and Botticelli, including the refined use of layering, tonal transitions, and the delicate sfumato effect achievable in tempera. Particular attention is given to the preparation of the wooden panel, from the initial stages of surface preparation to the creation of a suitable ground for painting.
